MMMMMMM..... Beefy!!!

Today was a day of unadulterated red meat indulgence. The Pantry Queen and I visited the Harbor City Diner(1630 S. Wickham Rd. West Melbourne, Fla.).Sure, the sign out front boasts a menu of authentic Greek food, but as the sign out front also boasts, they are home to Melbourne's best burger. Such a claim can and will NOT be bandied about carelessly. Not when there are such as I, fearless, impartial, and most importantly.....HUNGRY! Sitting down, I was more than a little apprehensive of the word "best". Was it just a marketing ploy to put some soft fleshy parts in some seats? Were they simply arrogant, or was there something to the outlandish remark boldly back lighted by florescent illumination? My wife ordered a specialty burger medium well(why must all the cute ones ruin a good piece of meat?). Me, being more of a purist, ordered a classic cheeseburger medium. What arrived about 10 minutes later made me do a double take. From the bottom of the bun to the top it had to have measured at LEAST 8 inches(see pic above). Served with a pickle(made in-store) fries and a side of slaw, it was more than a little daunting, but anyone can make 'em big. Then I took a bite. DING! WOW! Truly not a better burger I have bit! This was 12 ounces(YES! 12ounces!) of flame broiled beautiful beefy bliss! My wife agreed. To top it all off they actually offered dessert after this meaty monster of a masterpiece! Well, at that point we had to call in reinforcements. Our daughter and her boyfriend showed up to share a slice of cake that was every bit as big and delicious as the burger! Seriously, if you seek something more than a Mac-attack this place is an ABSOLUTE must! Ask about delivery!

Wingin' It!!!!

Being a little larger than most of the neighborhood haunts, Cricket's(1942 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne, Fla.)offer's the usual; beer, billiards, and darts. I'm sure they have karaoke one night and free poker the next. That, however is not what this blogger is looking for. No, I seek out more refined pleasure. Namely, The Wing! And the ones served here are almost legendary(at least to my wife and I). They are truly about the crispiest wings(without being dried out) that you can get. At one point I though they were breaded because of the crunch! The Pantry Queen (my wife) and I like 'em hot but you can get them med or mild, X-hot, atomic, and other(such as terayaki or bbq). It doesn't matter what flavor you get, its that crispy skin that gets you. To me they are a culinary masterpiece drippng in hot sauce, to my wife they are simply heaven. I hear tell that they actually have other food on their menu(being served up 'till midnight), things like burgers, dogs salads and more. And the iced teas are served in smitchers! So, come all ye weary travelers......and get your Wing on!!!

Like darts? Kelly's Irish Pub Sunday's starting at 2pm.... Fun!!!!
After setting this thing up last night it occurred to me that maybe everything was a little vague. So, lets start with a mission statement. That being, "To promote local business, and pervayors of food AND fun. To uncover and unveil to the public at large the cornucopia of places for all to enjoy." Also, throughout this not so regular venture you will be introduced to some interesting characters in my in my life. There's my wife, who I like to refer as "The Pantry Queen". She can make an incredible meal from a can of beans, a box of mac-n-cheese, and a can of vienna suasages (MacGuyver, eat your heart out). Also, my mother-in-law who will be refered to as Mil, or Millie. I'm sure there will be others, but those two have a bigger culinary influence on my life at this point.
